World record attempt for Whitley Bay care home Residents at HC-One’s Eastbourne House care home in Whitley Bay were delighted as they recently took part in an exciting world record attempt across the coastline.

The home were excited as they prepared to take part in the Whitley Bay World Record Moving Line of Wheelchairs, which was organised by Beach Access North East, an organisation which has funded 20 wheelchairs for use across the region since 2017.

The current world record held is 351 moving wheelchairs, and although many attended the event to take part, they were unable to reach the 352 wheelchair target which would have beaten the record.

The line of wheelchairs were led by Paralympian, Stephen Miller, the honorary president of Beach Access North East. Although they did not manager to surpass the current world record, everyone at the event was able to beat the current UK record of 70 wheelchairs, as there were around 108 participants.

Debbie White, Home Manager, commented: “We were so lucky to have this event on our doorstep. The Residents who took part had such a great time and everyone else at the home was able to view the attempt, and cheer everyone on wonderfully.”
