Amazing Betty turns 100 at Lincolnshire care homeResidents and Colleagues at Brooklands residential, nursing and memory care home, in Grimsby, got together this week to celebrate one Resident’s 100th birthday.

Decorations were put up and lots of photos around the home of new centenarian, Betty.

Betty Humberston was born on 1st July 1921. During her younger years, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, including going on holidays to lngoldmells, Skegness and Mablethorpe.

Throughout the war, Betty worked seven days a week at Muniton’s Factory, making weapons such as bullets and shells, in a rather dangerous environment.

After World War Two, she went into retail work and started working for her uncle in his clothes shop. Subsequently she went on to work in a hat shop and a card shop.

Over the years, Betty made many friends who all sent birthday wishes on her special day, and some visited too!

Throughout her birthday, Betty enjoyed some bubbly, sherry, cakes and biscuits, which were all served in the afternoon with a good old sing-along!

Betty’s favourite part of the day was opening the card from the Queen.

Fellow Residents describe Betty as an ‘Amazing Lady’, and we couldn’t agree more!

Catherine Brooks, Care Home Manager, commented, “Betty appeared to love her special day, especially the fizzy bubbly!”

“Everybody did an amazing job at making Betty’s day special and we were all very impressed that she received handmade cards from the 11th Grimsby Cubs, which were fantastic!”
