Anniversary surprise for two Derby ResidentsThis month at Shelton Lock in Derby, which offers residential and nursing care, a married couple were surprised by the home with a wedding anniversary celebration.

Mr and Mrs Evans came into Shelton Lock in September, when they were moving in, they had let slip that their wedding anniversary would be coming up in October to some of the staff. So, when the time came, the home had the pleasure of celebrating their 62nd year together, with some surprise gifts and a cake. The cake was baked by the care homes Head Chef, Isabella and can be seen in the photo above. Mr and Mrs Evan’s three boys also came in to celebrate this with them and they even got a cheeky glass of red wine!

Reminiscing about how the two met, Mrs Evans recalls meeting Mr Evans at a dance, he was stood over with one of their friends and they ended up having a dance together. Since then, the two haven’t stopped dancing and enjoying music together. Mr Evans commented, “none of this modern stuff where you can’t understand a word though”. Mrs Evans also said, “The cake is beautiful, we were not expecting this, it is wonderful that we can be together in the same room and hold hands” and went onto say, “The home is lovely and allowing us to be together at such a time is exactly what we wanted”.

Nicola, the Home Manager commented, “It has been lovely to accommodate such a lovely couple, to see the love they have for each other after  all these years is special”.
