Baby chicks hatch at Newcastle care homeHC-One’s Kirkwood Court care home in Kenton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne welcomed eight new baby chicks to the world thanks to a Living Eggs programme.

Living Eggs provides ready to hatch programmes where Residents get to enjoy two weeks of caring for the eggs in an incubator, watching the chicks hatch and caring for them before they move on to their new home.

Everyone enjoyed watching the eggs hatch and seeing the chicks start to grow feathers, Residents enjoyed holding the chicks and watching them roam around the lounge. The chicks will now be moved to a free-range farm to continue to grow, everyone was sad to see them go but commented on how much fun they had caring for them.

Mary Carano, a Resident at Kirkwood Court commented: “They are such loving little animals, they love lying on your chest.”

Kirkwood Court Home Manager, Angela Douglass said: “The chicks brought so much joy and happiness to everyone at Kirkwood Court, they were a lovely addition to our home for two weeks.”
