Bristol Enid Blyton appreciation dayOn Thursday 25th February, HC-One’s Amerind Grove care home, in Ashton, had a themed day. The theme they chose was Enid Blyton.

Enid Blyton is a very famous children’s author who has been among the world’s best sellers since the 1930s. Most of the Residents would have read Enid Blyton books as children themselves and read them to their own children.

One Resident reminisced, “I used to read Enid Blyton books to my children.”

Everyone began the day by having a group singalong, and Enid Blyton themed art fun. They then enjoyed an Enid Blyton film called ‘The Castaways’.

At 3pm, Colleagues and Residents had a get together and reminisced about their childhood memories, whilst having a picnic style tea (picnics are very much a part of Enid Blyton stories!) There was a selection of homemade cakes, strawberry trifle, jam tarts and ginger beer (a very prominent drink in Enid Blyton stories!)

One of the Residents added, “I like ‘The Famous Five’ and ‘The Secret Seven’.”

On this day, it was one of the Resident’s Birthday, so we everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him.

The wellbeing team and care staff engaged in the activities throughout the day and it was jolly good fun. They also made a point to share photos with Relatives to share their loved ones’ happiness throughout the day.

Richard Sayer, Home Manager, commented, “It was lovely to see such a successful day where the Residents really engaged in and enjoyed the theme of the day. Some of the Residents really reminisced and the day brought back many memories.

“Well done to the wellbeing staff for all their hard work in planning and facilitating such a lovely day.”
