Couple celebrates 65 years of marriage at Pontefract care homeMaureen and Frank Askew celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at HC-One’s Priory Gardens care home in Pontefract on Wednesday 30th June.

The pair met at the crescent cinema while both out with their work friends, Maureen worked at Woolworths while Frank worked at Featherstone Colliery. Maureen and Frank fell in love married at St Cuthberts Church in 1956, they went on to have two lovely children, John and Jane, and are now also proud grandparents and great grandparents.

When asked what their secret to a long and happy marriage is, the couple agreed that it is laughter, letting each other think they are the boss and also working at making the marriage work.

Maureen is now a Resident at Priory Gardens and enjoys weekly visits from her beloved husband. To celebrate their special anniversary, Maureen and Frank were surprised with a special outdoor lunch, the team had decorated the space with balloons and flowers, a special cake was prepared by the home’s Chef and a delicious fish and chip lunch from a local fish shop were served.

Both Maureen and Frank were delighted with their anniversary celebrations and thanked the team at Priory Gardens for helping to make their day extra special.

Priory Gardens Home Manager, Allison Gill said: “I am so pleased that Mr and Mrs Askew enjoyed their anniversary lunch, seeing them together is truly heart-warming.”
