Couple celebrates wedding anniversary at Edinburgh care homeRonnie and Ella Gilfillan celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary together at HC-One’s Victoria Manor care home in Edinburgh.

The couple met over 65 years ago when they were both working for Scottish Gas at their headquarters on Waterloo Place, the building where they first met and worked together is now a Howie’s restaurant chain which they have visited together many times over the years to reminisce.

Ronnie and Ella’s loved blossomed, they tied the knot on July 6th 1957 at Canongate Kirk on the High Street in Edinburgh and went on to have two daughters together, Linda and Lorna. Throughout their married life, both Ronnie and Ella have been dedicated members of their church communities at St Paul’s Church in Leith and then Pilrig St Paul’s Church.

The couple returned to church where they were married to watch their daughter, Lorna marry her husband, Andrew in 2009. Family is very important to Ronnie and Ella, who have always enjoyed spending quality time with their daughters, son-in-law’s Andrew and Daniel and their grandchildren, Stephanie and Daniel.

When asked what their secret is to having a long and happy marriage, Ella commented that Ronnie has never been one to argue and that they always take the good with the bad.

Due health reasons, Ronnie moved to Victoria Manor care home and Ella chose to move in with him so that they could continue to live the rest of their lives together. To celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary, the team at the care home pulled out all of the stops to make their day extra special with lots of cards, balloons, a personalised cake and a beautiful photograph wall filled with memories of the couple’s life together.

Victoria Manor Home Manger, Stephen Colquhoun said: “It is heart-warming to see the love that Ronnie and Ella have for each other, I am so pleased we were able to help them celebrate their anniversary.”

Located on Albert Street, Victoria Manor care home offers short and long term care packages for older ladies and gentlemen in Edinburgh that require nursing care and nursing memory care for those living with dementia.
