Droylsden care home pumpkin makingOne of the new Residents at Sunnyside residential and residential memory care home, in Manchester, who is a keen gardener, was delighted to see some pumpkins being used by the home from his allotment.

After having a fall in his allotment, Frank McCarthy has come to Sunnyside for recovery after being in hospital for several weeks. His pumpkins grown on the allotment would have sold locally and he is delighted to see, what he is sure is one of his pumpkins, being used within the home for pumpkin carving and soup making.

Residents enjoyed watching Sarah the chef carve the pumpkin and scooping out the seeds. Valerie Rice, who is a Resident at the home, said she is very impressed with Franks vegetable growing and all Residents hope to visit Franks allotment at some stage.

Kay Harrison, Care Home Manager, commented, “Today has been a very special day seeing one of our new Residents feel re-connected to his past which used to make him happy which he has missed so much since his fall.”

“Residents are looking forward to eating their homemade pumpkin soup tomorrow.”
