Glasgow care home Resident enjoys socially distanced visit on 99th birthdayA Resident at HC-One’s Eastbank care home in Glasgow celebrated her 99th birthday and was visited by family and friends who were some of the first to visit since the home starting allowing visits.

Rachel Francis turned 99 on 24th July and was able to be visited by her close family on her special day as this was the same day Eastbank started to allow visits again.

Rachel was visited by her granddaughter, Jeniece, in the homes specially decorated gazebo in the garden. Jeniece brought lots of presents from all the family as some could not visit due to the current restrictions.

Jeneice said: “I am extremely grateful that the staff have put so much effort into making Gran's birthday so special.”

Colleagues at the home purchased a special cake for Rachel and staff sang happy birthday to her. Rachel could not blow out the candles due to the infection control risk, but lucky for her, they live in Scotland and the wind helped her out.

Rachel said her goodbyes to her granddaughter and returned inside to enjoy some birthday karaoke and cake with her fellow Residents and staff.

Rachel Francis, a Resident at Eastbank said: “I really liked the cake, it was very sweet.”

Eastbank care home Manager, Terry Blackwood said: “It was great to be able to create a special day for Rachel and to facilitate a visit for her and her family after so much time apart.”
