Glasgow care home Residents celebrate Chinese New YearResidents celebrated the year of the ox with a day of crafts and Chinese food over at HC-One’s Ailsa Craig care home in Cessnock.

Residents made their own Chinese-inspired hand-held fans and decorated red cards to send to their families. They filled the cards with things they are thankful for as well as lovely messages to their loved ones.

To make sure that the activities were as authentically Chinese as possible, Colleagues got in touch with Ricefield, a local Chinese arts and culture centre, to ask for advice and tips.

Residents loved the activities and enjoyed learning something new about Chinese culture so much that Colleagues have already planned to collaborate with Ricefield again.

After a busy afternoon of crafts, Residents were treated to a cooking demonstration where they were shown how to make delicious potsticker dumplings. Although, they much preferred eating the dumplings to watching them cook.

Irys, a Resident at the home, said: “The Chinese dumplings were very tasty!”

Everyone enjoyed learning about Chinese culture, crafts and food and the activities even brought back memories for some Residents who had travelled to the country.

Ailsa Craig Colleague, Georgina, commented: “Today was a change from the norm and I was really happy to see our Residents’ enthusiasm for exploring a different culture!”
