Hornchurch care home take part in VE Day celebrationsAt HC-One’s The Hornchurch care home in Essex, all staff played a role in making VE Day special for all Residents. 

The Hornchurch wellbeing team decorated the home with banners, flags, balloons, and posters. As-well as decorating the home all staff were invited to dress for the occasion in WW2 Themed outfits. 

In the morning reminiscence sessions were completed on a one to one level with Residents which involved them sharing their memories and stories of their time growing up in WW2. 

In the afternoon residents who wished to attend came to the lounge to enjoy some live musical entertainment streamed on TV, the musician sang a range of songs including we'll meet again, The White Cliffs of Dover by Vera Lynn and My Girl by the Temptations. 

“I feel very emotional listening to this music and being back with everyone, I have really enjoyed myself today,” said one Resident.

As well as enjoying the music the residents were also offered a range of beverages including shandy, rose spritzer, tea and coffee and soft drinks.

The Hornchurch Home Manager, Tania Banner said: "I am so proud of my staff for putting such an effort in to make the day a memorable one and loved all of the costumes which were worn."
