International Older Persons Day event at the MillbrookToday at the Millbrook residential care home, in Stalybridge, Colleagues and Residents got together and celebrated International Older Persons Day.  

The Millbrook were joined by nurses from the complex care team, Deputy Mayor Councillor Michael Glover, and Ian and Daryl from the Youth Justice Service local press to celebrate. 

The theme was climate change and a local garden centre kindly donated plants to attract the wildlife to the home’s garden. 

Children from the Youth Justice Service had made bird houses and wrote Residents letters and well wishes.   

Colleagues commemorated the day with a harvest of vegetables grown by the children and discussed the importance of intergenerational work within the community. 

The Residents were happy to chat to the dignitary about being at Millbrook saying how much they enjoyed being there and what is done for them. 

The local newspaper came along to take photos and wrote a short piece for future publication.

Involved in the event were Residents Molly, Jackie, Mary and Barbara, the Complex Care team Rasheeda, Coleen, Geraldine, Hollie and Jennifer. And Deputy Mayor Councillor Michael Glover as well as Youth Justice Service- Ian and Daryl-Anne 

Residents particularly enjoyed meeting the Deputy Mayor and the letters and bird houses received by the children. 

Jackie described the Mayor, “What a lovely man!”

Claire Jones, Care Home Manager, remarked, “Thank you to all that made this day special for our Residents and all the donations and kind letters received from the children. Also thank you Tameside council for loaning us a marquee for the day.”
