July news from Alexander Court care homeAt Crookes based care home, Alexander Court, it has been another very busy summer month for all Residents and Colleagues with plenty to keep bus with!

Alexander Court had some beautifully hairy visitors in the form of two miniature Shetland Ponies from ‘Smile Pony Therapies’.

Leo and Harry were a joy to have, as they welcomed Residents to pet, walk and talk to them. Faces lit up in enjoyment at just the sight of them, as they calmly engaged with both Residents and staff.

“Leo is my friend, we go way back!” Resident Ann joked.

Jimitha Jacob, Care Home Manager, commented, “After such a long time not being able to have visitors to the home, being able to enjoy these furry friends has been a lovely relief for all. On another plus, we no longer need the grass cutting. Thank you to Harry and Leo!”

At the beginning of the month, a baking afternoon took place at the home with two Residents enjoying creating some scones for an afternoon tea.

Zandra and Valarie were very pleased with being able to partake in the activity, bringing back some fantastic memories for Zandra from when she used to own her own shop and sell her famous homemade scones and sausage rolls. Zandra said, “I've really enjoyed being able to bake again.”

Valarie added, “It’s been lovely to do something different"

Colleague Aisling remarked, “It was also lovely to get to know our newest Resident Valarie as we spoke about her family life and childhood.”

Also, this July, Residents and staff enjoyed a seaside inspired afternoon along with a barbecue, drinks, games and music entertainment.

A brilliant afternoon was had, with everyone enjoying the fantastic sunny weather, engaging in a couple of games of ‘hook-a-duck’ and prizes to be won.

Residents also had the option to dip their toes with the "fishes" in the home’s poolside replica, or even build a sandcastle in the sandpit.

Alexander Court was lucky enough to have a candy floss machine donated for the day, allowing Residents to taste the sweet treats, whilst staff provided the entrainment of trying to spin the candy floss!

One Resident said, “I enjoyed having candy floss for the first time in a long time!”

On 8th July, Residents and Colleagues enjoyed another sunny afternoon listening and singing along with an entertainer who was playing classic tunes on the ukulele.

Residents engaged in conversation with the entertainer and each other, reminiscing to the songs being played.

An afternoon tea was served to Residents, along with delicious buns and sausage rolls made by the fantastic kitchen staff, along with drinks.

Some garden games were also made available to Residents, helping to bring out some friendly competition!

Jimitha added, “All in all, what a fantastic July and here’s to what’s to come in August!”
