New electric wheelchair for Resident brings joyful tears at Derby care homeAspen Court care home Resident Monica Roscorla had her first ever electric wheelchair delivered recently.

Having never rode a bike or drove a car before, Monica was very nervous about being in control of her electric chair. In addition to this Monica is naturally right handed, however as a result of illness she has to now use her left hand for everything. Monica has worked so hard to use her left hand to safely manage the controls and use her chair safely

From the chair assessment team, they stated that they had never seen anyone so happy to have an electric wheelchair that they cried!

Monica has completely got her independence back; being able to take herself around the home without having to ask someone to do it for her. She said, "Having this wheelchair means so much, it has brought happiness back to me."

Judith Pearson, who is the Home Manager at Aspen Court, commented, “It has given her so much independence back. To see the joy this has brought to her is amazing.”
