Paisley care home Resident runs arts lessons for fellow Residents during lockdownResidents at HC-One’s Hillside View care home in Paisley have enjoyed some art lessons throughout lockdown courtesy of one Resident in the home who loves painting.

Hillside View Resident, Duncan Stewart enjoys doing art and uses this as a therapeutic calming tool. Duncan is so good at his craft that, during lockdown, he has been delivering art lessons to the other Residents.

Katy Jenk, Hillside View Home Manager said: “It started as a one-off event but the Residents have really enjoyed it and now Duncan is doing weekly art classes in the home.”

Residents have painted many different pictures that are all on shown on the home for everyone to see.

One Hillside View Resident said: “I can’t wait to show my family all my art work after lockdown.  I even made a birthday card to send home which they loved.”

The calming nature of painting, writing or other creative pursuits is a way to forget about larger stresses and promote healthy, happy feelings. Research has found that artistic activities can help reduce stress, but also boost self-esteem and confidence.
