Peterborough care home Residents enjoy World Earth Day in new sensory gardenFor this year’s World Earth Day Colleagues at HC-One’s The Gables care home in Peterborough created a sensory garden for those Residents who live with dementia.

Kathleen, a Resident at The Gables has always been a keen gardener. From when she was younger helping in her mothers’ home, to when she had her own garden and even now at The Gables she always enjoys getting outside.

During the endless mornings Kathleen has spent in the homes garden, tending to the flowers and hedges, she has given Colleagues at The Gables countless ideas on how to improve the garden.

To celebrate World Earth Day, Colleagues worked with Kathleen and other Residents to see what they would like in the home. After discussion, it was decided that Residents were to be given a special sensory gardening area, to help stimulate Residents as they garden.

“What a lovely way to celebrate World Earth Day relaxing in the sunshine together with our new sensory garden area,” said The Gables home Manager Helen Walters.

Located close to the delightful village of Coates, close to Whittlesey in Peterborough, The Gables is a friendly care home with 55 beds, offering nursing and nursing dementia care.
