Secrets to a long life with Leeds care home ResidentAt Colton Lodge’s care home, in West Yorkshire, one Resident has been handing out some wisdom; and very wise words indeed.

Head of Wellbeing, Lois Campbell, sat down with 95-year-old Dorothy Proctor, who has been sharing her secrets to a long life.

Dorothy remarked “Right well, the secret to a long life is simple. You must work hard for what you want.”

“Always be friendly, wear a smile - That means don’t be a moaner!”

“If you can, eat well. Have a little tipple now and then, not much, but you should take time to enjoy it.”

“Just love music and be happy.”

Dorothy was devoted to her late husband, and often still kisses his framed photo on her windowsill. She loves reminiscing and looking at her collection of photographs.

She says she always prides herself on still being able to look nice, as her appearance is important to her. She loves to match her clothes every day, and is never without her beads around her neck, or a necklace.

Music is her favourite thing in the world, and she would spend every day listening to records, or dancing with her husband.

Lois commented, “She is so enthusiastic about her life here and will make a conscious effort every day to talk to Residents and make our people here happy.”
