Shepton Mallet Resident celebrates centenaryA Resident at HC-One’s The Glen care home, in Somerset, has been celebrating her 100th birthday today with fellow Residents and Colleagues. 

Edna May Newman, was born in Tackey, Oxford, on 20th December 1920. For the most part of her career, she was involved in farming and loved it. Later on in life, she volunteered in local charity shops. 

Edna married her husband William, who she says she loved very, very much, on 6th June 1941. They have a daughter and a son, as well as, four grandsons called Ben, James, John and David, and two granddaughters, Catherine and Elizabeth. Edna also has two great grandchildren. 

In her spare time, Edna enjoys reading, gardening and she is also a huge animal lover and has always enjoyed caring for them throughout her life. She says that the secret to keeping happy is helping people and enjoying life, “I regret nothing.”

Her advice is, “Keep working as long as you can.”

On her birthday, Edna’s children both came to visit her and watched as she opened a humongous 38 birthday cards! Edna said, “I had a lovely day. Bring on my 101st birthday!”
