South Yorkshire care home marks VJ Day with a salute to Vera LynnResidents at Sheffield’s Alexander Court residential and nursing care home enjoyed a singalong to a Vera Lynn tribute act for VJ Day.

Everyone was very grateful that the sun was shining and had a wonderful time reminiscing to the different songs.

New Resident Annette was particularly fond of the performance by a local entertainer, as she spoke about how her mum used to be a dancer for ENSA during the war, and how afterwards the two of them taught dance lessons together.

“I remember my mum being in ENSA”, Annette commented.

Fellow Residents Derek and Valarie were singing along as they were taken back to their childhood throughout the war. Overall it was a lovely afternoon in the sun listening to some wonderful songs.

Jimitha Jacob, Care Home Manager, said, “Everyone loved listening to songs they knew, we all thought the entertainer looked marvellous in her uniform!”
