Cheltenham care home enjoys ‘The Big Summer Weekender’ with local communityHC-One’s Crofton Springs Care Home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, welcomed visitors and guests from their local community to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from Monday, June 16 until Sunday June 22, 2025.

The home's main celebration events took place during Care Home Open Weekend from Friday, June 20, to Sunday, June 22. Crofton Springs Care Home welcomed residents, colleagues, friends, family and the wider community to ‘The Big Summer Weekender’ event.

Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. The week offers care homes the opportunity to showcase their range of services, provide tours of their facilities, and highlight the activities that are offered to residents.
The event is also a reminder to the homes’ neighbours that they are there if they need support. Throughout the week, residents, colleagues, families, and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities culminating in an end-of-week celebration at the home.

The event also sought to connect the homes with their neighbours, highlighting the communal support that the home can provide. HC-One’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘The Big Summer Weekender’ emulating the nostalgic feel of British summer holidays with a variety of fun-filled activities culminating in an end-of-week celebration at the home.

Crofton Springs Care Home hosted a vibrant and unforgettable celebration that brought together residents, families, colleagues, and local friends. With outstanding attendance, the event showcased the exceptional care and lively spirit that define Crofton Springs.
The air was filled with the delicious aromas of a spectacular barbeque, hosted by talented Crofton Springs chef Jack and maintenance hero Nick, who served up a feast of mouthwatering dishes and refreshing drinks. The mood was electric, thanks to a lively performance by Scott Walters, whose music had everyone tapping their feet.

A breathtaking vintage swing dance demonstration added a touch of elegance, while the Animal Club’s petting zoo brought joy to all ages, which created cherished moments for residents and visitors. Children bounced with delight on a 40-foot bouncy castle, cooling off with sweet treats from the generous Mr Whippy ice cream van, which stayed all day to keep the smiles coming.
Shannon Eldridge, HC-One’s Crofton Springs Care Manager, commented:

“We were absolutely thrilled to welcome members of our local community to Crofton Springs for this year’s Care Home Open Week. The atmosphere has just been so lovely, and it was so nice to be able to celebrate with the residents.

“I loved the entertainment – very different but so enjoyable with everyone getting involved. Most of all, I loved seeing past residents and friendly faces all come together again.”

Marlene Walsh, HC-One’s Crofton Springs resident, added:

“It was a lovely day, and everyone looked happy during the Care Home Open Week at Crofton Springs. My favourite part of the celebrations was the male singer, he was great.”
