Residents at HC-One’s Woodland View Care Home in Droitwich enjoyed a truly uplifting afternoon as the home hosted a flower arranging activity, filling the lounge with colour, creativity, and the sweet scent of fresh blooms.
The tables were brimming with an assortment of vibrant roses, cheerful daisies, carnations, and seasonal greenery. Residents carefully selected their favourite flowers before creating unique arrangements, each one reflecting their own personality, flair, and creativity. From delicate, pastel-toned displays to bold, bright combinations, the finished results were as individual as the residents themselves.
The activity sparked joy and conversation among residents, with many sharing fond memories of gardens they once tended, flowers they received on special occasions, or their favourite seasonal blooms. For some, the fragrance of the flowers evoked nostalgic memories, while for others, the process of arranging them provided a soothing and therapeutic experience.
Research has shown that activities such as flower arranging can have multiple benefits for older adults, from stimulating the senses and encouraging dexterity, to supporting mental wellbeing and reducing stress.
