95th birthday celebrations for Resident at Blacon care homeA very special birthday party was held at Lauren Court care home, in Blacon, Chester, as one of the Residents celebrated her 95th birthday in style with lots of dancing and singing.

Joyce Jones as born on 24th January 1928 in Chester. She married her husband Peter Jones who was a Farmer and they had one daughter together, Lyn. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in the 1980s!

On the farm, Joyce looked after the animals with Peter, including milking the cows. She says that she loved this life and still likes to be outside now.

Joyce walks thousands of steps in a day around Lauren Court care home, going from room to room visiting people, communal areas and enjoying the views from the windows. Her favourite thing to do is have a hot cup of tea and chat in the home’s dining room with everyone around.

Joyce loves dancing, walking and nothing more than drinking tea and chatting with people.

When asked about what her secret is to a long life, she remarked:
“Keeping moving I suppose. Being kind. Staying happy, I am very lucky, I am healthy.”
“95, that's a good age! I am very lucky.”

Joyce said that she wanted, “A bit of a do”, for her 95th birthday, so Colleagues at the 48-bed residential care home threw her a birthday party and Lauren Court do not do things by halves! The party consisted of a live singer, party hats, little cakes for everyone, sparkly centrepieces, posh napkins, giant 95 balloons, flowers, banners, a big birthday cake, party poppers, and a birthday sash, crown and rosette!

Joyce got up and danced with fellow Resident Colette Johnson to some of their much-loved songs and said that she had a ball dancing to the live singer.

She was moved to tears by the other Residents who all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her.

Nicola Doyle, Wellbeing Coordinator at Lauren Court, commented,
“Joyce is an all-round wonderful person who we all wish a very happy 95th birthday!”
