A sensory session for Westwood Lodge ResidentsSome sensory one to ones were very well received at Westwood Lodge care home, which offers nursing care in Wigan.

Colleagues have created a ‘Sensory Box’ which consists of lots of calming and relaxing items such as massaging and stress balls, glow up fibre optic trees (which is a good tool for soothing massage), a wave projector with calming music and aroma therapy items.

Chloe Webb, Wellbeing Coordinator, said, “These items help Residents use their sensory motors; vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch.”

Residents have found the sensory sessions engaging and enjoyable and particularly like the wave projector.

Angela Ormshaw, who lives at the home, commented, “I love the lights, they are lovely.”

Chloe added, “The sensory session will now become a weekly one to one activity at the home.”
