Adelaide House care home Residents enjoy a busy month of MarchResidents at HC-One’s Adelaide House care home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, which offers residential and nursing care, enjoyed a fun filled March.

Adelaide House Resident Margaret Betts enjoyed an afternoon arranging flowers with Colleagues, something she was particularly keen on given her previous career as a gardener and florist.

“I enjoy arranging flowers, thank you for assisting me”, she said, as she produced floral arrangements for the communal lounge that her fellow Residents all appreciated.

Another creative activity that was thoroughly enjoyed was an art session aided by Colleagues from the care home’s wellbeing team. Residents were invited to colour plant pots with paint and decorate them with glitter and other craft materials.

A participating Resident commented: “Painting is something I always wanted to try, and I really enjoyed doing it”.

For those who wanted to work on their problem-solving skills, there was an afternoon of puzzles and games for Residents to take part in.

One Resident remarked: “I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, and if I can’t do it all myself my family help out when they visit. I like doing them in the lounge, when I can watch the TV as well!”

There were plenty of opportunities for Residents to enjoy food and drink during the month. A drinks and nibbles party featuring red and white wine, beers and a range of snacks offered Residents a chance to socialise together, while a hot chocolate and marshmallow party, with scones and cupcakes, provided another option for Residents to relax with a selection of tasty treats. Hot chocolate, cupcakes and scones were also taken to the rooms of those Residents who were unable to get to the lounge.

And if Residents wanted to burn off some extra calories after overdoing the food and drinks, there was a weekly fitness club available on Thursday mornings. Adelaide House Resident Christine Gregory reported: “I enjoyed the fitness club, it was fun!”

Fiona Hewitt, Home Manager, said: “It’s wonderful seeing our Residents enjoy these various activities together. We aim to cultivate a family atmosphere at Adelaide House, and having everyone enjoy these moments is a great way of delivering that.”
