Colleagues at
Market Lavington care home have recently put together an autumn-themed arts and crafts group with a varying choice of things to make, colour in, build, paint and draw.
Residents at the 80-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home have been enjoying being able to release their creative side using so many wonderful colours of autumn and using different mediums and materials.
Lesley Shaw, who is a Resident and discovered at a very early age she was interested in art, commented, “So many choices, I don’t know where to begin!”
Stanley Thompson, added, “I quite like using a mixture of pens and pencils to get the effect I am looking for.”
Residents had a wonderful time during the activity, talking about memories of autumn growing up; conker picking, kicking fallen leaves and wrapping up warm to play outside.
Dennis Scurrell, also a Resident at Market Lavington, said, “I can remember playing outside during autumn and seeing all the lovely colours of the leaves, we used to see how many different coloured leaves we could find.”
The group ended the activity with a hot drink and slice of cake which went down very well after all the hard work.
All in all, they created some lovely pieces of art which will be displayed at an event later in the home this month. They are hoping to get a few more of these activities organised before the event to create more masterpieces!
Wellbeing Coordinator Michaela Powell said, “It did get rather messy but that’s half the fun!”
“Autumn is such a lovely time of year, so many different colours to play around with.”
