Patricia Loughlin, a Resident HC-One’s Orchard Mews care home in Benwell, Newcastle-upon-Tyne enjoys her favourite pastime with a day baking her favourite bread.
Patricia (Pat) reminisced with the team at Orchard Mews about baking and how much she used to enjoy making a variety of delicious baked goods. In her younger years, Pat won a Greggs competition against Greggs chefs in Newcastle.
The team arranged a special baking day just for Pat, the kitchen team prepared the ingredients for Pat’s favourite bread to make, the classic stottie. Pat had a wonderful time mixing the dough, she shared her secret to making great stotties is in the bashing of the dough. The team cooked Pat’s stotties which were served for Residents and team members with ham and pease pudding.
Everyone commented on how delicious the stotties were and complimented Pat on her baking abilities. One Resident commented: “Smelling freshly cooked stotties straight out of the oven is just delightful.”
Orchard Mews Home Manager, Nicola Coulson said: “I am so pleased that Pat enjoyed baking her delicious stotties, we look forward to finding out what she would like to bake next.”
