Balcarres care home celebrate Cinco de MayoResidents at Balcarres, residential and residential dementia care home in, Dundee, had lots of fun celebrating a special day in Mexico.

The Residents were very excited to celebrate Cinco de May. This special celebration is held yearly on the 5th of May to commemorate the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

The chef prepared lots of Mexican traditional Mexican treats for the Residents, which included Mexican eggs with potato hash, Mexican chicken, churros with chocolate sauce and Mexican wedding cookies.

Lunch was followed by a party with some traditional Mexican music. They dressed up in themed glasses and sombreros.

Various cocktails were made throughout the party, which included Mexican spirits like tequila and margarita. June, a Resident, said, “This cocktail is so good!”

The Residents also enjoyed lots of nibbles too.

Vivian, another Resident, remarked, “This is the best Mexican themed party I have seen!”

Lynn McLean, commented, “The Residents had so much fun at the party, it was lovely to see them get up and dance along to the music!”
