Today at
Aspen Court in London, which offers residential dementia, nursing and nursing dementia care, had the beach brought into the home.
Taking full advantage of the London sun, Aspen Court staff took the opportunity to build sandcastles, eat ice cream and create their own day at the seaside. Residents expressed throughout the day how fantastic it felt relaxing in the sun, feeling like they were at the beach.
Staff at Aspen Court created a lovely environment for everybody, when the Residents arrived to their new beach area, they were given straw summer hats and floral garlands. This really boosted everybody’s spirits and lots of other activities were available for Residents to get involved with including, mini games involving beach inflatables, chatting amongst one another whilst glancing over the canal or simply enjoying the selection of 80s classics that were played throughout the day.
The Wellbeing Coordinators Sharon and Rovish hosted the event and setup a beach layout in their garden. There were 8 Residents who had attended, which was the maximum allowed due to the space.
Highlights of the day was making their own sandcastles, being as creative as possible making unique structures and linking them all together. The sand itself that they had got was specifically made for building which allowed for some interesting designs. During all of this, juice and ice cream was served to anybody who wanted it.
The Home Manager Mahendra said “The wellbeing team have really outdone themselves here, the Residents really enjoyed it”.
