As part of National Pet Month, Residents encountered an ‘out of the ordinary’ interactive animal experience on 19th April at HC-One’s
Gittisham Hill House care home, in Honiton, Devon.
Wellbeing Coordinator Emma Walker reached out to C&L Aquatics, Reptile and Pet Centre to bring in some different reptiles for Residents to meet for National Pet Month, this April.
Representative Troy brought in a Royal Python, chameleon and a ferret. The Residents showed no fear, and all got stuck in, holding the animals if they wished.
The session struck up lots of conversations between Residents and Colleagues who asked lots of questions, which was great for everyone.
The chameleon was particularly popular with Residents, when he changed colours; this was a great talking point.
One of the Residents said, “The chameleon makes funny faces!”
Some of the Residents were very brave and held the python! Many commented ow cold and heavy it was.”
Julia Heneker, Care Home Manager said, “It was really great to see how involved everyone was.”
Emma said, “We took lots of photographs on the day, and when families saw the photographs, they were amazed! It was a great success we have re-booked C&L for June. It was great for us to learn about these animals.”
