Capwell Grange care home has benefitted from transformative refurbishment and upgrade programmeCapwell Grange care home in Luton, Bedfordshire, has benefitted from an almost £400,000 exciting refurbishment and upgrade resulting from a major investment programme launched by owners HC-One.

Residents of the 146-bed, friendly care home are able to enjoy sustainable, modernised and enhanced living environments - including full refresh to the lounge and dining areas across all 5 units. This also included a revamp of the corridors across these units with them being fitted with appropriate handrails for ease of access for the Residents. The Milner and Hatley unit will include decoration to door skins to harmony specification and life stations. Bathing and WC facilities have been upgraded in bedrooms and other identified areas across multiple units. Residents, their loved ones, and Capwell Grange’s care teams can come together to enjoy activities and social engagements in the refurbished lounges in the different units, which have been developed as part of the home’s transformation.

Hatley House received a complete upgrade to facilitate the new type of residential and residential dementia care that Capwell Grange is now able to provide. Also with the reopening of this unit, Capwell Grange also is part of the Johns Campaign, which allows for Relatives and friends to support those living with dementia in care homes and stay with them overnight. This allows for Residents ease into the care home in a more natural way with familiar faces around them. Capwell Grange would encourage collaborations between Relatives and Colleagues in the care team to ensure better outcomes for our Residents who are newly moving into care. It also would facilitate helping out at mealtimes, staying late or overnight until the Resident feels more settled, helping with personal care and taking Residents out and about.

More positive strides have been made within the care home, which was inspected by the Care and Quality Commission (CQC), and rated as ‘Good’ overall, indicating that the home is safe, effective, caring and responsive. Something the whole team are incredibly proud of and the improvements in quality have enabled this refurbishment to further benefit the Residents already living at Capwell Grange and future Residents.

The nursing and nursing dementia care home refurbishment forms part of HC-One’s £54.5 million refurbishment and upgrade programme. This programme will benefit 221 HC-One homes, including Capwell Grange, and forms part of HC-One’s mission to be the UK’s first choice care provider in the communities it serves.

As the largest care home refurbishment programme in the UK, HC-One is transforming its homes for the benefit of the Residents and Colleagues who live and work in them, and for the local communities they serve. The upgrades mean that every HC-One home will be equipped to meet the needs of an ageing population with increasingly complex care needs – including dementia care needs.

The works at Capwell Grange had the finishing touches put on it in September 2022– no Residents were impacted by the works.
