A social knitting group at HC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home, in Bingham, has been raising money for charity and to commemorate Remembrance Day.
Members of the weekly ‘Knit and Natter’ group, which is organised by Care Assistant Dawn Bellaby, have been crocheting beautiful red and black poppies and selling them as part of a fundraising initiative to raise money for Bingham Royal British Legion.
On Tuesday, 21st November, the group welcomed Bingham's Royal British Legion President Richard Montgomery and Poppy Appeal Organiser Robbie Woods to the care home, where they were presented with a cheque for £120 raised by the sales of the crocheted poppies.
Richard Montgomery, Bingham Royal British Legion President, said:
"It is because of people like Dawn that in 30 years’ time we will still be having remembrance services. We must keep their memory alive”.
Margaret Barnett, resident of Fosse Way View and member of the Knit and Natter group, said:
"We were delighted to be able to support Bingham British Royal Legion. Our Knit and Natter group is getting bigger and bigger, so we expect to produce even more poppies for our fundraising next year!"
Clare Howarth, Resident Liaison and Admissions Manager of Fosse Way View, said:
“It has been great to see the residents get involved with the local community, for a cause they believe in”.
Care Assistant Dawn Bellaby, who organises the Knit and Natter group, said they have already started on their next project:
“The Knit and Natter group brings residents together and is a lovely activity to be involved in.
The members are now busy working on another project, making knitted squares which are to be sewed together as a blanket. These will also be sold, and the money raised donated to a local charity.”
