Carterton care home celebrates 80th anniversary of VE Day with spectacular community event

HC-One’s Brize Meadow Lodge Care Home, in Carterton, West Oxfordshire, hosted an unforgettable celebration marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day that brought together residents, families, colleagues and local visitors for a day filled with joy, nostalgia, and community spirit in partnership with the Royal British Legion.

The event was a vibrant tribute to the historic milestone, featuring live entertainment by the talented Angie McCoy, whose performance had everyone dancing and singing along. Guests admired a stunning model Spitfire and explored an impressive display of vintage vehicles, which evoked the era’s charm.

The local volunteer fire crew added excitement with a visit from their fire engine, which delighted attendees of all ages. A hugely successful tombola kept the energy high, while a mocktail stand and a delicious homemade food spread, crafted by Brize Meadow Lodge’s in-house chefs, ensured everyone was refreshed and satisfied.

A dedicated kids’ games area kept younger visitors entertained, making the day a true family affair. The atmosphere was elevated by Brize Meadow Lodge colleagues, who embraced the occasion by dressing in period-inspired outfits that brought smiles and sparked conversations among residents and guests.

Frances Payne, HC-One’s Brize Meadow Lodge Care Home Manager, said:
