Celebrating care home Resident Dorothy’s 99th birthdayA very special celebration was held at Rose Court care home, in Radcliffe, Manchester, as Dorothy celebrated her 99th birthday!

Colleagues and fellow Residents at Rose Court care home have made an extra special effort to mark Dorothy’s 99th birthday with lots of cards, presents and even a sing along.

Dorothy Walsh, was born on 19th January 1924 in Middleton, Greater Manchester. She had a number of different jobs throughout her life including working as a machinist and in a grocery shop. She also worked in the local Coop jam factory, where she met her husband Fred Walsh and they had one daughter together.

Dorothy has many hobbies and interests. She loves gardening and enjoys going to visit garden centres and being outdoors and going for long walks; she likes to walk around the grounds of Rose Court too. She is also an avid reader and loves dogs. This came to no surprise when Colleagues asked Dorothy what her secret is to a long life.
Dorothy remarked,
“Remain physically active.”

She used to be a member of Michael Ball's Fan Club for 25 years and has had three 'Meet and Greet' events with him. She used to go to see him in musicals and owned all of his CDs.

To celebrate her 99th birthday, fellow Residents at the 87-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home, made her a birthday card (pictured), which she was over the moon with!

The home’s Chef also made a cake, and Colleagues presented her with flowers and present from the other Residents. Colleagues all came and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her.

Lucy Ling, Wellbeing Coordinator, said,
“Dorothy was in her element, blowing out the candles and was really happy with all the attention.”
