It was a special day at HC-One’s Arcadia Gardens care home in Bridgeton, Glasgow as Susan Whitehead celebrated her 104th birthday on Thursday 1st April.
Born on Bridgeton Main Street in 1917, Susan worked for the Navy, Army and Air Forces Institutes (NAAFI) during the war when she sadly lost her husband, William. Susan later met her husband Jack while working with the NAAFI and went on to work in factories after the war.
She has been blessed welcome two daughters, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and even one great-great grandchild to her lovely family. When asked what her secret to living a long and happy life is, Susan commented that it is determination and hard work.
To celebrate her milestone birthday, Susan received a special visit from her daughter, Pauline, following government COVID-19 guidelines as well as being showered with cards and gifts from her loved ones. Later in the day she enjoyed a birthday party with her fellow Residents at Arcadia Gardens with a delicious homemade cake prepared by the kitchen team.
Arcadia Gardens Home Manager, Louise Singh said: “What an honour it is to celebrate such a special birthday with Susan, she is a lovely lady and an inspiration to us all.”
