Avon Court care home, in Chippenham, Wiltshire, was the first home of some baby chicks who hatched over Easter.
Ten eggs were delivered by the company ‘Living Eggs’ which delivers an original and ethical chick hatching programme. These were then incubated at the care home and eight of them successfully hatched, right in front of everyone’s eyes. Residents and Colleagues were all fascinated and watched intently.
Residents at the 56-bed residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home enjoyed watching the chicks hatch and then holding them, including Stanley Quilter and John Taylor (both pictured).
A week later, the chicks were then collected and will be rehomed.
It was a great experience for all involved who said they loved looking after the chicks. It also sparked many memories from the past and lots of conversations happened among Residents, who talked about growing up around animals.
Wellbeing Coordinator Lyn commented, “It was lovely to see the Residents’ faces light up when holding the chicks.”
