Anne Stewart, Home Administrator, and Elsie (Ellie) Harris, Care Assistant at HC-One’s Blar Buidhe care home in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, a 38-bed nursing and nursing dementia care home, have been shortlisted awards at the Scottish Care Home Awards and the Great British Care Awards 2022.
Anne has been nominated for the Ancillary and Support Staff Award Category at the Scottish Care Home Awards 2022 and the Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award at the Great British Care Awards 2022, and Ellie has been shortlisted in the Care Newcomer Award Category at the Great British Care Awards 2022.
The nomination for the awards are in recognition of Anne and Ellie’s hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion they show every day to ensure the people they support receive the best quality care.
Anne has been the Home Administrator for 30 years and, as such, she knows the home inside out. She is described by Colleagues as a reliable and trustworthy right-hand woman and she is dependable, compassionate and goes over and above for the home every day. This is often referred to as ‘the gel that keeps everything together.’
Ellie had never worked in the care sector before, but when she joined the team at Blar Buidhe to support the workforce as the start of the pandemic, she was instantly a wonderful asset to the team! Ellie has the calmness, ethics and empathy of someone who may have worked in the sector for years.
Donald McIntosh, who nominated Anne and Ellie for the awards, said:

The Scottish Care Home Awards consist of 13 awards, which cover a wide range of areas of the social care sector. The award ceremony of the Scottish Care Home Awards 2022, takes place at the Hilton, Glasgow on Friday 18th November 2022 when the winners will be announced.
In total three HC-One Colleagues have been shortlisted for the Scottish Care Home Awards 2022.
The Great British Care Awards consist of 21 awards, which cover a wide range of areas of the social care sector. The awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of distinction across the care sector. The awards pay tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their area of work. The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the Scottish region takes place at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, in Newcastle on Thursday 10th November 2022 when the winners will be announced. Successful winners at the Scottish regional awards will progress to the national finals of the Great British Care Awards 2023 taking place on Friday 17th March 2023 at the ICC in Birmingham.
In total eight HC-One Colleagues have been shortlisted for the Great British Care Awards in the Scottish region.
