Devizes Residents enjoy animal themed afternoonThis month’s animal themed ‘Stop the Clock’ event at Market Lavington residential, nursing and residential memory care home was such a success!

Colleagues linked up via a live feed with a number of other HC-One homes, viewing each other’s activities. At Market Lavington, the weather was beautifully sunny and Residents sat in the courtyard area to enjoy the event.

They had two recitals of poems by two different Residents, a wonderful Muppet ‘Animal’ cake baked by Head Chef Kim, and also the local junior school, St Barnabas, sent in a recorded video of three of the school children reciting an animal themed poem, which was played to the live feed and shown to Residents. The cake at these events always goes down well for Market Lavington Residents, especially the beautiful cakes that Kim made.

Everyone sang the song ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ where everybody joined in and voices soared through the little village of Market Lavington, bringing a smile to everyone’s faces.

Residents June Clack, Violet Lloyd, Susy Masterman, Margaret Gutherson, Angela Wakely, Margaret Tomalin, Jo Mann, Wilma Williams, Pamela Johnson, Pamela Huckin, Sonja Parfitt and Kenneth Sheppard all joined in and had a wonderful day.

It was the first sunny afternoon for a fair number of weeks; having the opportunity to bask in the sunshine while all of the other things were going on, made a huge impact to the Residents wellbeing! They did all laugh at the poetry recital by Resident, Margaret Gutherson, who deliberately added a light, comic touch to her delivery of the piece!

“Thank you, it was lovely to be out too. I enjoyed reciting the poem!” Margaret commented.

Fellow Resident Angela added, “It was lovely in the sun, and the poetry by the schoolchildren was delightful. Yes, I enjoyed the cake very much!”

Natasha Howard, Home Manager, remarked, “The poetry recitals were performed with such expression and dramatic flair – they were a joy to watch and listen to! And the support we had from St Barnabus school yet again was so kind and we are delighted that they enjoy being involved in these events!”

Riaz Ali, Wellbeing Coordinator, added, “I was so glad we could do the event outside, and I want to thank the management team for all they did on the day too, joining in with all the festivities!”
