Dorset Residents give birds a boost going into AutumnResidents at St James Park care home, in Bridport, have been giving the garden birds a real nutrition boost this September by crafting a variety of different bird feeders.

Barry, Phil, Pam, Evelyn and Caryn, who all live at the 31-bed residential and nursing care home, had a busy time breaking up bread and stuffing cones with nuts, seeds and scraps to ensure the garden birds were well prepared for migration and the winter ahead. They also used mealworm peanut butter which was spread onto tubes before being rolled in seed.

Pam commented, “I hope we don’t get the mealworm peanut butter mixed up with the one we eat!”

To which Barry joked, “It will be full of protein, and we might enjoy the crunch.”

Everyone particularly enjoyed placing the bird food around the garden. Some Residents chose to give their feeders as present to Relatives. Phil’s daughter was very pleased to receive hers when she visited.

Mihaela Barbulescu, Home Manager, remarked, “Taking care of the birds helps Residents feel part of the flow of life, a feeling that too often gets lost. Birdfeeders give pleasure to Residents.”
