Dukinfield’s Mary marks her 99th birthdayOn 12th January at HC-One’s the Beeches residential care home, on Tameside, Resident Mary turned 99 in style.

Mary Quinn was born on 12th January 1923 in Millbrook, Stalybridge. She was the second of five children.

Throughout her career, Mary served at the local vicarage looking after the children. She also worked making camo materials and spent some time volunteering at the church playgroup.

Mary enjoys spending time with her friends and family, including her nephews and her great niece.

For her birthday, Colleagues at the home threw a party for Mary, with all her friends and fellow Residents. They played her favourite games which included balloon tennis, skittles and target games.

The group also enjoyed some singing entertainment via YouTube singer Kayley, who sang songs from the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s.

Mary later enjoyed a window visit with her family and finished the celebrations with a cake (pictured) and a singalong to her favourite singer Tom Jones.

Mary remarked, “I have a lovely day, you (Colleagues at the home) always make such an effort with our birthdays to make sure we have a special day.”

When asked about what her secret is to a long life, Mary said, “I don't drink or smoke. I spent my life at church. We have good family genes; my sister is 100 and my great aunt lived to be 103 years old!”

Sade Smith, Wellbeing Coordinator, commented, “It’s been a lovely time for Mary’s birthday celebrating such a fantastic age and enjoying a party with all her friends!”
