The Care Team at HC-One’s
Balcarres in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, a 35-bed residential and residential dementia care home, were crowned the winners of The Care Team Award Category at the National Great British Care Awards 2023. In addition to this success, Balcarres were also announced as being a winner in the Carehome.co.uk Top 20 Care Home Awards in Scotland.
At the National Great British Care Awards, the care team were recognised for delivering the kindest possible care and working together to enhance the quality of life of the Residents living at Balcarres. The team have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to deliver enhanced infection control measures to keep Residents safe.
Balcarres were selected as the winners of The Care Team Award Category at the awards by the judges who stated:
“A person-centred organisation. What really stood out was the mutual respect between Lynn and her team and residents alike. It’s no surprise that word of mouth is so positive. We were particularly impressed with Lynn’s unique approach to managing funerals and making Residents dreams a reality.”

Following on from this achievement, Balcarres care home are also celebrating success after Residents and Relatives voted them as one of the Top 20 recommended care homes in Scotland in the Carehome.co.uk awards for 2023, which was announced on 20th March 2023. This marks Balcarres’ 7th year in the prestigious top 20 awards.
Carehome.co.uk, the UK's leading care home directory and comparison website, holds its annual Care Home Awards to recognise the 20 top-rated care homes in each region of the UK. These are based on individual review scores that carehome.co.uk have received from Residents, and their friends, family and loved ones, demonstrating real life opinions and first-hand experiences from those most closely connected to the home.
HC-One were also awarded the Top 20 Large Care Home Group 2023 Award which recognises the Top 20 Care Home Groups in the UK based on reviews from Residents, their family and friends, and other service users.
HC-One is committed to providing the highest standards of care in every community they serve, which is demonstrated by the 9.5/10 average rating, achieved at the time of the awards deadline on the carehome.co.uk website – which is among the highest review scores across the care home sector.
In total, 24 HC-One homes received awards for being among the Top 20 care homes in their respective regions with 7 receiving awards for being in the Top 20 Care Homes in Scotland.
