For Residents at residential and residential memory care home,
Sutherland Court, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, an unused room has been turned into a ‘mini social club’ for them and it has gone down an absolute treat for all!
The music room on the Grace Unit was never really used, so the room has been redecorated and a bar put in it to look like a social club.
The Residents now love to prop the bar up with a pint of larger shandy and have a sing and dance.
Everyone loves the room; which has gone from a ghost room to a room that the Residents love. They especially enjoy being able to let their hair down, and dance and chat like the ‘good old days’.
June Cowie, who is a Resident at Sutherland Court, said, “I loved popping into the club and having a drink and dance, its lovely seeing people enjoying themselves.”
Judith Snowdon, Wellbeing Coordinator, commented, “It’s a fantastic transformation of a room from hardly being used to look so beautiful and warming, where the Residents don’t want to leave, of course the bar is helping too!”
