Residents enjoyed an afternoon of fun and laughter as they tossed pancakes at HC-One’s Ashgrove care home in Netherton, West Midlands before tucking into them for Shrove Tuesday.
Residents and Colleagues tested their skills in a friendly competition to see who could toss a pancake with the most elegance, style and grace. As it happens, no one was particularly graceful and the pancake was on the floor more times than it was in the pan.
Laughter flowed through Ashgrove as Jean Morris, a Resident at the home, tossed the pancake over her shoulder and into the corridor.
Jean said: “I’ve not laughed so much in years!"
After fun and games with the first throwaway pancake, Colleagues whipped up their best batch, and Residents decorated their pancakes with a selection of fruit, chocolate and plenty of sprinkles before gleefully tucking in.
Anne Morgan, a Resident at the home, commented: “This has cheered me up a lot!”
The pancakes brought back memories of their families and childhood and the Residents laughed as they swapped their favourite stories about making the treats and some of their disastrous pancake-tossing moments.
Ashgrove Home Manager, Julie Jones, said: “This was all round afternoon fun for all our Residents.”
