Residents at HC-One’s Highgate care home in Glasgow, recently sent Christmas cards to their fellow Residents across Scotland in a ‘Christmas Cards of Kindness’ initiative.
As part of the initiative, Residents written their hopes and wishes for 2021 and for a great end to such a strange year. The team at Highgate then sent these to care homes all over Scotland so that Residents could connect and share their wishes with each other.
Colleagues at Highgate are part of a group on Facebook where all of the logistics is organised and it really intrigued Residents to see where their cards were being sent, from Glasgow and the Clyde Valley, to Edinburgh, Scone and Dundee.
Residents really enjoyed engaging in the initiative, and although some needed a bit of assistance with their writing, everyone ended up writing a card for their fellow Scottish Residents, “I hope they like my card and can read my writing,” one Resident joked.
This activity was great for reminiscence as it brought back memories about the Residents past as they sat and told staff all about their story.
Highgate Home Manager Jennifer McKellar said: “It’s so nice to get a card in the post, it reminds you someone is thinking about you.”
