Jim Clark, a Resident at HC-One’s Pennwood Lodge in Kingswood, celebrated turning 100 on 22nd January.
It was a quiet affair due to strict coronavirus restrictions, however he had a lovely early morning Skype call with his daughter, Elaine, all the way in Australia.
He then enjoyed an afternoon tea party with Residents and Colleagues where he opened his very special telegram from Her Majesty the Queen.
Jim was born in 1921 in Chatterton Square, Bristol and has led a remarkable life through his career in the army. He married Ruby and the couple had four daughters together – Linda, Brenda, Jane and Elaine.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed playing golf and belonged to Chipping Sodbury Golf Club. He now enjoys spending time with his large family, including 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
When asked what the secret to a long life is, Jim answered: “A good balanced diet and not worrying about eating things that are supposed to be unhealthy.”
He talked about always eating whatever food he fancied, including chocolate and sweets, but that the key to health is balance.
Jim received lots of lovely cards from his family as well as Colleagues at Pennwood Lodge and enjoyed his afternoon of tea and cake with his friends at the home.
Despite social restrictions, Colleagues worked hard to organise Jim’s party and he had a wonderful day celebrating his 100th birthday.
