Honiton Residents’ indoor train journey to the seasideAt residential, nursing and dementia care home, Gittisham Hill House, in Devon, everyone has been demonstrating fantastic teamwork and getting involved in fun activities for the ‘Summer Holidays’ month.

The theme of the month was of course ‘Summer Holidays’ and Residents have enjoyed a variety of fun activities at the home, which were centred around the holiday theme.

Colleagues have been supporting reminiscence by the use of props and fun activities to really help Residents recall some of their adventures and re-live some of their past experiences.

The home’s Maintenance Officer, Chris, goes above and beyond to support Residents and frequently gets involved. On this occasion he was able to drive the bus while the ladies leisurely enjoyed their ice creams! (see pictured)

When Residents reached their destination, they played fairground games like ‘Hook-a-duck” and sang old Cliff Richard songs from times gone by.  A great afternoon was enjoyed by all in the home.

Chris commented, “I never expected I would be driving our Residents virtually to the beach when I started in post!”

Julia Heneker, Care Home Manager, remarked, “I feel very proud of how far the team have come in a short space of time.  Colleagues work really well together to support each other and draw upon their various skills to help provide the very best care to our Residents which is so very rewarding to be part of this.”
