Residents at HC-One’s Aberford Hall care home in Roundhay, Leeds are nurturing new friendships by making pen pals with children at a local primary school.
The home recently received handwritten letters, cards and pictures from children of the school, telling the Residents all about their lives, hobbies and favourite things. The children asked if the Residents would kindly write back to them so that they could become pen pals.
The Residents were over the moon to make their new friends and decided that they would love to write back to the children.
One Resident commented: “It was lovely to hear from the schoolchildren. I don’t have any family and have no grandchildren so it will be nice to keep in touch with my new pen pal.”
The children’s letters were read out during the Residents’ monthly meeting so that everyone could hear about each of the children and show off their beautiful drawings. Reading the letters out loud put a smile on everyone’s faces and spread laughter throughout Aberford Hall.
The Residents wrote very sweet letters back to the children, talking about the snow, what they had been up to and what they are most looking forward to this year.
Now that they have sent their letters, the Residents are looking forward to hearing back from the children and hope they will be able to visit them in the future when lockdown restrictions are lifted.
Aberford Hall Home Manager, Coral Abrahams, said: “The Residents loved hearing from the children. The letters were really interesting and made them laugh!”
