Live music and singalong for Residents at Market LavingtonThe Residents at Market Lavington residential, nursing and dementia care home, in Devizes, as they were invited to an afternoon of live music and musical instruments.

Supported by Wellbeing Coordinators Riaz Ali and Michaela Powell, Residents were able to choose their own musical instrument, with most of them picking anything with bells on, to play throughout the session.

With Riaz on his guitar and Michaela on her trusty triangle, the pair took requests for songs, which were played while everyone sang along.

All the Residents had a song they wanted to sing, with many well-known and a few which were new to the group.

Dennis, who lives at the 80-bed home, remarked, “I would like to request the two hosts sing a song!”

One of the Residents, Phillip Kelley, used to play the organ and has been known to play a few tunes on the home’s keyboard, unfortunately the afternoon went by so quickly that Phillip didn’t have time to show off his skills! (But that can always be saved for the next session).

The afternoon was a great success and comments were made that the singing could be heard from down the corridor.

Michaela commented, “We had lots of requests for songs this afternoon, some of them I had never heard of! Gordon (Resident) especially knew a lot of the words”.

Fellow resident Irene said, “It’s always good to have a sing along and a laugh, it lifts the spirits.”
