Today at Tameside’s residential memory care home, Yew Trees, everyone marked ‘May Day’ in style.
There was maypole dancing to bring in spring, and Residents had a singsong while colouring in maypole pictures and doing some word searches which all related to May Day itself. The singing and dancing were particularly enjoyed.
Eclairs and coffee were served in the afternoon and everyone finished the day with another singalong as well as talking about the traditions of maypoles and the Morris men.
The event got many people reminiscing. One of the Residents said, “Oh, I remember maypoles from when I was young.”
Lynda Bulley, Wellbeing Coordinator, remarked, “It’s nice to see Residents remembering traditions and hearing their stories lovely day.”
