There has been a lot going on over the past month at
Springwater Lodge in Calverton, Nottinghamshire, which offers residential and nursing care, as well as residential memory care.
Janet one of the Residents had to go on a shopping trip into town to get some new clothes. Accompanied by Kelly – the Wellbeing Coordinator, they went over to Matalan and Morrisons. Janet was able to purchase a whole range of new clothes, and they even got a chance to stop by the Morrison’s cafĂ© for some coffee and cake! Janet had expressed how lovely the chocolate cake she got was, she remarked how chocolatey and gooey it was, also saying how nice it was to have a milky coffee. Janet was stunned at the range of clothes on offer at Morrison’s, wondering how she would ever choose!
Janet was also involved with some other activities on at Springwater this month, when Residents took part in a little competition with each other by planting new hanging baskets around the home. There were 10 baskets in total with Janet, June, Betty, Edward, Pam, and Jean all involved. One of the Residents mentioned “I’ve never planted a hanging basket before”.
Highlights of this were putting up the hanging baskets once completed and watching the Wellbeing Coordinator, Kelly, get wet when she was trying to water them! Also having some tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards was well deserved. One Resident was quoted in saying “They are all going to look beautiful when they are in full bloom”. The Home Manager Mihaela Oprea also noted “what lovely fuchsias” they had planted.
Whilst the Olympics in Tokyo were in full swing, the Residents decided they would love to have their own event at the home. Colleagues pulled together and had it all arranged. 10 Residents were in attendance and all who took part received their own medal. With gold, silver, and bronze medals also given out for the different events. These were: egg and spoon walking race, tin can alley and another throwing game.
Residents spoke after the event and said “Wow, I’ve never won a medal before” and “it’s a real medal!” Overall, it seems the favourite part of the day was receiving these medals.
There were also more gardening activities going on in the home this month. With some bunches of flowers being bought, then separated, the Residents could then create their own flower arrangements. A selection of vases was left on the tables, where the Residents would come and sit. They could choose the flowers they liked, trim them down to the right size and create their own display.
Jane was particularly impressed by the flowers, saying “All these beautiful flowers must have cost a fortune!” and another commented “Do we get to keep them?” – which they did indeed. The consensus with the Residents on their favourite part of the day, was placing the final displays they had made in their room. Mihaela the home manager asked if they could do this every week!
