More of Peter’s poetry please! Care home Resident is a smash at local poetry open-micA resident at HC-One’s The Harefield care home has been taking his talent for poetry to new heights with a live performance at Uxbridge Library’s open-mic poetry evening.

Peter Sparrow, 69, is already a popular figure at The Harefield care home for his funny and personal poems and lyrics. On Friday evening, he was one of the star performers at Uxbridge Library’s open-mic performance evening, showcasing two of his sonnets before a live paying audience.

Encouraging care home residents to maintain their interests is a great way of ensuring positive mental health and sense of social inclusion. The Harefield care home places residents at the centre of everything they do and has been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Peter said after his performance:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my evening, performing in front of all those people was wonderful. I can’t wait to go back and do it again!”

Rebekah Axford, Home Manager at The Harefield care home, commented:
“We are very proud of Peter and the way he is able to express his wonderful talent. His success shows that just because you are a care home resident life doesn’t stop, and you can continue to be an inspiration to others.”
